Graduate Visa

The Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) allows international students to stay in Australia after completing their studies, offering opportunities to gain work experience, enhance skills, or even explore pathways to permanent residency.

This visa is ideal for graduates who want to build their careers in Australia or further contribute to the Australian economy. 

There are 2 streams available under the Graduate Visa

Study in Australia

Post - Vocational Education Work Stream

This stream is designed for international students who have recently graduated with qualifications that relate to an occupation on Australia’s Skilled Occupation List.

​

With this visa, you can:

  • Live, work, and study in Australia temporarily.

  • Gain valuable work experience (full work rights).

  • Travel freely in and out of Australia during your visa validity.

  • Explore pathways to permanent residency through skilled migration.

Duration:

​

Typically valid for up to 18 months (longer for eligible Hong Kong or British National Overseas passport holders.

​

Eligibility:

  • be 35 years of age or under when you apply. *Exceptions apply

  • Completion of a course closely related to an occupation on the SOL.

  • Skills assessment in the relevant occupation

Cost Involved


Visa Application Fee: $1,945

+ Health insurance, police checks, English test certificate, skill assessment etc. 
 

How to Apply for the Graduate Visa

Study in Australia

  1. Check Eligibility: Ensure you meet the requirements for the Graduate Work or Post-Study Work Stream.

  2. Gather Documents: Prepare your passport, transcripts, completion letter, OVHC, AFP check, and skills assessment (if applicable).

  3. Create an ImmiAccount: Register on the Department of Home Affairs website.

  4. Submit Application: Upload documents and submit your application online.

  5. Complete Health Checks (if required): Attend a health examination if requested.

  6. Wait for Approval: Track your application status through your ImmiAccount.

  7. Receive Visa Grant Notification: Start your journey with your approved visa!

Please be aware that it is imperative to submit all required documents simultaneously when applying for the Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485). Failure to attach all necessary documents at the time of application can lead to the denial of your visa request.

Post-Higher Education Work stream

This stream is for international students who have recently completed a higher education degree in Australia, regardless of the field of study.

With this visa, you can:

  • Live, work, and study in Australia temporarily.

  • Gain valuable work experience (full work rights).

  • Travel freely in and out of Australia during your visa validity.

  • Explore pathways to permanent residency through skilled migration.

​

Duration:

​

  • 2 years for Bachelor’s and Master’s by Coursework graduates.

  • 3 years for Master’s by Research graduates.

  • 4 years for PhD graduates.

​

Eligibility:

  • be 35 years of age or under when you apply. *Exceptions apply

  • Completion of a degree-level qualification (Bachelor’s or higher) from an Australian institution.
